Braces & Assistive Devices
At Vaughan Chiropractic, we offer medical grade (usually covered by extended health benefits) to ensure you are getting the support that you need. After your assessment, Dr. Amar determines which brace(s) you can benefit from and fits you for the prescribed brace(s). She also does the fitting for them once they are received. Please refer to the various braces that are the most commonly purchased by our patients:
Medical-grade braces come in various types and serve different purposes depending on the condition they are designed to address:
- Hinged Knee Brace: Provides stability and support for injured or weak knees, commonly used after ligament injuries like ACL tears or during post-operative rehabilitation.
- Patellar Stabilizing Brace: Specifically designed to stabilize the kneecap and alleviate pain associated with conditions like patellar tendonitis or patellofemoral pain syndrome.
- Unloader Knee Brace: Alleviates pain and pressure on specific areas of the knee affected by conditions like osteoarthritis, by redistributing weight and reducing joint friction.
- Lace-Up Ankle Brace: Offers moderate support for ankle sprains and instability by restricting excessive movement.
- Figure-8 Ankle Brace: Provides additional support for severe ankle sprains or chronic instability by wrapping around the ankle in a figure-eight pattern.
- Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO): Used for conditions like drop foot or ankle weakness to provide support and maintain proper foot positioning.
- Lumbar Support Brace: Offers support and stability for the lower back, commonly used for conditions like lumbar strains, herniated discs, or degenerative disc disease.
- TLSO (Thoracolumbosacral Orthosis): Provides rigid support for the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine, often prescribed for spinal fractures, scoliosis, or post-surgery immobilization.
- Carpal Tunnel Brace: Designed to alleviate symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome by immobilizing the wrist and keeping it in a neutral position to reduce pressure on the median nerve.
- Wrist Splint: Provides support and immobilization for wrist sprains, strains, or tendonitis by restricting movement and promoting healing.
- Tennis Elbow Brace (Epicondylitis Strap): Relieves pain and pressure on the outer elbow caused by conditions like lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) or repetitive strain injuries.
- Elbow Immobilizer: Used to immobilize and support the elbow joint after fractures, dislocations, or surgery to promote healing and prevent further injury.
* Please refer to the following website for more information about specific braces. You can discuss which one(s) you are interesting in during your assessment and Dr. Amar can advise accordingly.
Support braces, also known as orthopedic braces or orthoses, are medical devices designed to provide support, stability, and sometimes alignment to various parts of the body. They are commonly used for both injury rehabilitation and prevention, as well as to manage certain medical conditions.
It’s important to note that while support braces offer numerous benefits, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Proper consultation with a healthcare professional, such as a physician or physical therapist, is crucial to determine whether a brace is appropriate for a specific condition, injury, or situation. An improperly used brace could potentially cause more harm than good.

SAFE, ATTENTIVE AND PERSONALIZED
Award Winning Chiropractic Care
We believe that health exists when every part of your body is functioning properly. True health occurs when your brain can communicate, uninterrupted, with the rest of your body, tell it what to do, and when to do it. While the resolution of health is typically regarded as something that requires treatment or therapy from the outside in, we recognize that the best treatment is enabling the body to health itself – from the inside-out.
